Museum De Lakenhal
To prepare his installation for the Global Imaginations exhibition, Georges Adéagbo (1942, Cotonou, Benin), let himself be inspired by the city of Leiden, and especially by De Meelfabriek and the vast collection of Museum De Lakenhal. He found Lucas van Leyden’s The Last Judgement particularly inspiring. The room-filling installation Adéagbo prepared for De Meelfabriek consisted of a series of texts and reproductions of iconic works from Museum De Lakenhal’s collection made by himself and artisans from Benin. A series of found and purchased objects from flea markets in Leiden and Cotonou was also displayed, including books, paintings and textiles. Adéagbo had also prepared an additional supplementary installation in the hall of Museum De Lakenhal.
