Museum De Lakenhal present:
Museum in transition

Karin Borghouts

20 June 2019 - 29 September 2019

Between 2016 and 2019, Karin Borghouts (1959) followed the rebuilding process at Museum De Lakenhal with her camera. She strolled through the museum on countless occasions, seeking out powerful images of moments of demolition, rediscovered historical details and the building chaos, as well as more unassuming details. These still lifes of the empty museum spaces undergoing renovation are displayed here as witness to a past phase: the museum in transition.

Belgian artist photographer Borghouts specialises in photographing architectural locations and interiors. Her works sits on the boundary between documentary and art photography, with many references to painting. She regularly accepts photography assignments from international museums and was Antwerp’s city photographer from 2012 to 2014.
